About the Burning River Roller Girls
Who are the BRRG?
The Burning River Roller Girls are Cleveland’s first all-female, skater-owned, flat-track derby league, following the WFTDA (Women’s Flat Track Derby Association) rules and regulations, including how bouts are run, the size of the track and equipment. The league consists of 60+ players over five teams, Burning River All Stars (travel team), Cleveland Steamers, Hard Knockers, Hellbombers and The Rolling Pin-Ups.
What is roller derby?
Roller derby is an American-invented contact sport—and historically, a form of sports entertainment based on formation roller skating around an oval track. In past decades, roller derby had been primarily a professional or paid sport for both women and men. Contemporary roller derby is international, predominantly female, typically operates on an amateur (or unpaid) circuit, and features both athleticism and a strong do-it-yourself ethic.

There are currently 68 official WFTDA leagues operating across the United States and more being certified each year! These leagues are divided into four regions, West, North Central, East and South Central. They compete against each other to increase their rankings, for Regional playoffs and eventually for the National Championship each year.

Who keeps this machine running? Incredibly dedicated volunteers (skaters and non-skaters)! We start with an elected BRRG Board of Directors, who make sure the whole league runs smoothly. There are several BOD members whose responsibilities cover everything we need to maintain a healthy organization. We wouldn't be where we are today without their passion, vision and incredible commitment.
Our Support Staff also subscribe to an amazing passion and commitment to the league. They cover everything from Recruitment and Coaching of new skaters, continuous education for our veteran skaters, Referees, Stats Keepers, Announcers and our Interleague Liaison/WFTDA Representative that keeps us up to date on the industry standards and rules.
Skater safety and well-being is our number one priority!
